The police command in Zamfara says it has rescued two students of the Federal University of Gusau who were kidnapped by bandits.

The two students — a male and a female — were abducted after bandits attacked their off-campus hostel located around Sabon Garin Damba area of Gusau in Zamfara.

The attack was said to have occurred around 8pm on Saturday.

Security operatives, who were mobilised to the area, attempted to repel the bandits.

Speaking with TheCable on Sunday, Yazid Abubakar, Zamfara police spokesperson, said the victims were rescued on Saturday night.

“When we received the information, we went to their rescue,” he said.

“Thank God, we rescued all of them, they are two. We rescued them in the night. They are with us now.”

The latest incident adds to the growing number of student kidnappings by bandits.

In September, bandits attacked the Zamfara varsity and kidnapped about 24 students.
