Two dead, houses destroyed as fuel tanker explodes in Delta

Two people were killed in a tanker explosion on Thursday in Ohoror community, Ughelli north LGA of Delta state.

The explosion was said to have occurred after a truck collided with a tanker along Ohoror junction.

About 20 buildings in the area were also burnt in the fire caused by the explosion.

Speaking with TheCable, Bright Edafe, the state police spokesman, said the incident occurred around 3:30am on Thursday.

“The accident happened when a truck which was conveying granite from Benin hit a stationery tanker carrying fuel,” he said.

“Two people died, four tankers got burnt, and about 20 houses also got burnt.”

Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of the state, visited the scene of the accident and condoled with the community and those affected by the explosion.

He also called for an immediate assessment of the incident and assured that the government would take steps to cushion the effect on victims.

On Sunday, many shops were razed in a fire outbreak at Ogbe-Ijoh main market in Warri south LGA of the state.

Property and goods worth millions of naira were said to have been destroyed in the inferno.
