Two persons have been killed in a petrol tanker explosion on Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Ahmed Umar, Ogun state commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), said the accident occurred around 6.05 am near CDK company.

Umar said the tanker, with no registration number, was inbound Lagos-Ibadan expressway when it exploded a few kilometres after the Sagamu interchange.

The sector commander said eight male adults, three vehicles and a Bajaj motorcycle, were involved in the accident.

Umar said six other persons came out unhurt from the accident.

“The corpses of the dead have been deposited at Idera Morgue, Sagamu,” he said.

The FRSC official blamed the accident on excessive speeding on the part of one of the truck drivers.

He said the inferno had been put out by firefighters and traffic has also been diverted to ease vehicular movement.

Umar asked motorists to cooperate with the FRSC and other sister agencies to reduce the time spent in the gridlocks.

He also advised motorists to drive cautiously and adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations.
