Two killed as Plateau suffers fourth attack in one week

Gunmen killed two persons at Nding Suisut village in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau state on Thursday.

Terna Tyopev, spokesman of the state police command, told NAN that two persons were also injured in the attack.

“This morning at about 6:30am, we received a distress call that gunmen shot some persons at Nding Suisut Village of Barkin Ladi,” he said.

“Armed police personnel were immediately dispatched to the area, but on arrival at the scene, four persons were seen with wounds from gunshots.

“We rushed them to the General Hospital in the locality where the doctor on duty confirmed two out of the four victims dead. The remaining two are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital and in a stable condition.”

Tyopev said the family of those who lost their lives declined autopsy and the dead bodies were released to them for burial.

He said investigation to unravel those behind the killings was in progress.

The attack is the fourth Plateau is experiencing in one week.

On August 29, eight persons were killed and 95 houses burnt when attackers invaded Abonong and Zayit communities in Foron district of Barkin Ladi local government.

On September 2, at least 11 persons were killed in an attack by unknown gunmen in Jos south local government area of the state.

Two days after, some gunmen killed five persons at a mining site in Gana-Ropp village of Barkin Ladi.

The high rate of insecurity in the country has been a source of concern, with critics of the current administration calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to resign if he cannot bring an end to the killings across the country.
