The Kaduna police command says its operatives have repelled an attack by bandits on Birnin Gwari LGA of the state.

Mohammed Jalige, Kaduna police spokesperson, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday.

He said the police learnt of an attack on Kimdi village of Birnin Gwari LGA on Tuesday, and a team of operatives was deployed, leading to the killing of two of the bandits, while two AK-47 rifles were recovered.

“In furtherance to its sustained onslaught against banditry in Kaduna, particularly Birnin Gwari axis, the command, on Tuesday May 31, recorded another success,” the statement reads.

“This involved neutralising two bandits and recovering two AK-47 assault rifles, while several other bandits sustained bullet wounds.

“The operation followed a distress information received on the same date, at about 1600hrs that some bandits, in large numbers, had attacked Kimdi village of Birnin Gwari LGA.

“The command immediately dispatched a nearby team of crack operatives to the location to repel the attackers and an exchange of fire ensued, where two of the bandits were neutralised and two AK-47 assault rifles recovered.

“The command is not unmindful of the security challenges, particularly around Birnin Gwari axis, and alongside the state government and other security agencies, the command is working to contain bandits.

“This is to ensure that the sanctity of human lives is adequately protected at all times.”
