The police command in Ebonyi says two people have been killed in a communal crisis between residents of Abaomege and Oshinkwo communities in Onicha LGA of the state.

In a statement on Tuesday, Onome Ono, police spokesperson, said the victims were killed while returning home from work.

Ono added that a police officer was also injured during the communal clash.

“There were shots at the Abaomege – Oshinkwo communal crises area by Oshinkwo warriors,” NAN quoted Ono as saying.

“The victims were rushed to the hospital. Two of the victims were confirmed dead, but the policeman is responding to treatment.”

The police spokesperson said the command had launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects, adding that those behind the incident would be brought to book.

Residents of the affected communities have intensified calls on relevant authorities to address the lingering crisis in the area.

A relative of one of the victims said the development has “done more harm than good” to his family and others in the community.

“The police and security personnel should step up operations in the area. The crisis has done more harm than good to my people and my family in particular,” NAN quoted the source as saying.
