Two persons were burnt to death as a petrol tanker exploded at the toll-gate area of the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

Ahmed Umar, sector commander of Ogun Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the development.

He said the incident happened at about 1.30am on Thursday.

Umar said three people were injured in the accident, adding that the tanker was ascending from Ilo-Awela to the toll-gate area, when it lost control, fell and went up in flames owing to mechanical issues.

He said a total of 12 vehicles, comprising three luxurious buses, four tricycles, three motorcycles and a yellow bus, were involved in the fatal incident.

The sector commander said the corpses of the victims have been deposited at the state hospital in Ota, while the survivors, including two males and a female, are also receiving treatment at the same hospital.

He said the personnel of the fire service have cordoned off the area to prevent a secondary crash.

The sector commander said the FRSC personnel and other sister agencies were on ground to control traffic gridlock and to ease the free flow of traffic.
