IDP Nigeria, an education services provider, says it has opened two new additional centres for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in Lagos state.

IELTS is an international standardised test of English language proficiency for non-native English language speakers, which is part of the requirements some Nigerians seeking admission into higher institutions overseas must meet.

In a statement by Funmilayo Peter-Thomas, the IELTS business development and operations manager in Nigeria, the new IELTS test centres are located in Alausa and Victoria Island areas of the state.

According to Funmilayo, the new test centres will be home to IELTS on computer labs and will offer frequent testing in modern, purpose-built facilities which offer quick results in three to five days.

She added that the new centres will be hubs for Nigeria’s growing community of globally ambitious test takers who are looking to work or study in countries where English is the primary language of communication.

“With an IELTS score, our test takers can proudly show their English language proficiency to more than 11,000 organisations. It’s a clear, trusted way for people to prove their English language ability and to open the doors to global opportunities for people in Alausa and Victoria Island,” Peter-Thomas said.

“These new centres at Alausa and Victoria Island will also offer test takers a range of free IELTS preparation support, access to experienced staff and a comfortable and friendly test environment to achieve their study, immigration or career goals abroad.”

Darrin Vardon, IELTS director MEA, EU & CIS, who shared these sentiments, said he was pleased that IDP was able to expand the IELTS on computer presence to Alausa and Victoria Island.

“Test takers will have the option to choose whether they sit their test on paper or on computer, whichever suits them best. They will also have the support of our expert teams and our digital platform – including the IELTS by IDP App which enables test takers to receive expert preparation guidance, register for the IELTS tests and, later, proudly showcase their results on social media platforms. Our trusted human connections will support Nigerian students and test takers every step of the way in achieving their global study and career goals,” he said.

Additionally, the first 50 test takers who register to sit a test at these test centres will be provided with a voucher for a free IELTS Progress Check, valued at ₦46,000, the official IELTS online practice test, which is marked by qualified markers.

The new test centres will be located at Omatsola Complex, 17 Kafi Street, behind Shoprite, Alausa and 2A Louis Solomon Close, Victoria Island, Lagos.
