Suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly attacked a mobile police patrol team along the Bara–Gulani axis of Yobe state.
The attack reportedly occurred at about 5pm on Wednesday while the team, made up of operatives from 19 PMF on special duty in Bara and 79 PMF Buni Yadi, was responding to a distress call from Kojoli village in Gulani LGA.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused in the Lake Chad region, said two officers sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Makama said residents had raised an alarm after armed herders allegedly invaded rice farms and destroyed crops.

The publication said the patrol team, led by Sunday Yunana, an assistant superintendent of police (ASP), came under heavy fire from the insurgents, who engaged the officers with assault rifles before retreating into the bush.
Makama noted that two officers, including Abdullahi Aminu, a sergeant, and Aliyu Suleiman, a corporal, sustained machete injuries during the encounter, while one of their rifles was briefly seized by the assailants.
The publication said the police team was able to repel the attack and recover the stolen weapon and the herd of cattle suspected to have been used by the insurgents to conceal their movement.

Makama added that injured officers were taken to the hospital, as additional security personnel were deployed to prevent further attacks.
