The Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Ondo West has secured international scholarships for two young constituents to pursue postgraduate studies in Sweden.
The successful applicants were Akindiose Racheal and Fadoju Abimbola.
Racheal received the Swedish Institute Women in STEM scholarship to study for a master’s degree in biomedical surface science at Malmö University. The scholarship covers tuition and monthly living stipends worth over $50,000.
Abimbola secured an 80 percent tuition scholarship funded by Malmö University, estimated at over $30,000. Both recipients are expected to begin their programmes in September.

In a statement on Saturday, Olabisi Gideon, YPP’s spokesperson in Ondo West, said the move is part of the party’s efforts to empower youth through global educational exposure.
He said the scholarships were achieved through a mentorship initiative under the party’s “Youth Emancipation” programme, aimed at increasing access to higher education and skills development for young people in Ondo East and West.
Bolaji Daramola, a party leader and mentor, said eight candidates were selected for the scholarship mentorship cohort, out of which two successfully secured offers for the 2025 academic session in Malmö, Sweden.

“Education is the most powerful tool we can use to break the chains of poverty and underdevelopment,” Daramola said.
“We are investing in future leaders, thinkers, and problem solvers who will bring knowledge and impact back to the community.
“This achievement is not just about two individuals; it is about the future we are building. Our vision is to open doors of global opportunities for our teeming youths, sharpen their skills, and prepare them to become world beaters who will represent our community with pride on the international stage.
“What we celebrate today is only the beginning. Through mentorship, empowerment, and transformative programs, our ambition is to impact the lives of at least 10,000 young people across Ondo Kingdom. With unity of purpose, steady commitment, and the grace of God, we will not only achieve this but surpass it—for the progress of our people and the brighter future of generations yet unborn.”
YPP leaders in the state described the scholarship initiative as the first in a broader youth development agenda.

The party said upcoming plans include the launch of an IT hub and free cybersecurity training for young residents to equip them with digital skills that are in demand globally.
The party said in a state grappling with youth unemployment, weak infrastructure, and limited global exposure, the programme represents a model for people-focused political engagement.
