Two passengers killed in Lagos boat mishap
A passenger boat has capsized on the waterways in Ikorodu LGA, Lagos, killing two people.
The boat named “R & N 2” was said to have experienced a mechanical fault barely 200 metres away from Ikpado ferry terminal in Ikorodu after setting off to its destination on Lagos Island, and submerged immediately around 7:45 am on Wednesday.
Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, general manager of Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), said water guards, as well as the search and rescue team of LASWA, were immediately mobilised to the accident scene upon the news, leading to the rescue of 15 people.
Two female unconscious passengers, according to him, were taken to the nearest hospital for treatment but were later confirmed dead.
He said investigation into the cause of the accident is in progress.
