Mathew Joshua, a mobile policeman attached to Zenith Bank, Zaria, has killed Aliyu Kamilu, his colleague, following disagreement over monthly stipends given to them by the bank.

Joshua, who eventually died, fatally shot a student and injured four customers of the bank, according to a witness.

Trouble started after Joshua discovered that Kamilu had allegedly been short-changing him.

Both men engaged in a heated argument before Joshua reportedly shot his colleague in the stomach.

“After shooting the sergeant, Joshua started shouting and shooting sporadically, which eventually led to the killing of a university student, while four customers of the bank also sustained bullet wounds,” a witness told NAN.

“When the report of the incident reached their command in Zaria, a team of policemen was immediately mobilised to the area.

“The policemen met him with two rifles. One of them succeeded in shooting Joshua on the leg, which gave people around the opportunity to descend on him with stones.”

He said Joshua was rushed to the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), still in Zaria.

The corpses of Kamilu and the student were also taken to the hospital’s morgue.

A police source said there was no case to pursue since Joshua had also lost his life.

“The Nigeria police has no case because the two policemen gave-up the ghost,” the source said.

“Information coming to us now is that the affected policemen have died, therefore, we have no case.”

Aliyu Usman, police public relations officer in Kaduna, confirmed the incident, but said he was yet to get details on the matter.
