Two siblings have died in a partial building collapse at No 25, Ajao street CWC in the Ishawo area of Ikorodu in Lagos state.

Ibrahim Farinloye, the south-west zonal coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), said the incident occurred at about 11:30 am on Saturday.

Farinloye said the siblings — Rakib Atolagbe, seven, and Mujib Atolagbe, nine, — were trapped when a fence from the neighbouring house fell on their building during the morning downpour.

He said their corpses were recovered from the rubble of the collapsed section.

“It was very unfortunate that no distress call was properly channelled to those whose responsibility it is to save lives at the right time,” Farinloye said.

“Officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) are currently on the ground to assess the situation.

“May the Almighty forgive the deceased and console their parents.”

In April, a three-storey building at Ladipo Oluwole street in the Apapa area of Lagos collapsed.

The building, which was under construction, reportedly collapsed following a thunderstorm.

The incident occurred days after a seven-storey building collapsed in the Banana Island area of the state.
