Uba Sani flags off Markarfi road project construction
Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, says development must extend beyond the metropolis to all 23 LGAs.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Durum to Kuruntumawa road in Makarfi LGA on Monday, the governor described the project as a corrective measure against decades of neglect of rural communities.
“Makarfi is among 12 local government areas in Kaduna state that had not benefitted from a completed road project in the past 10 years. I am therefore very happy to be here to break that unfortunate record,” Sani said.
He said the project is not merely about infrastructure but about addressing “historical injustices” and ensuring equitable distribution of resources.

“Kaduna state is not only an urban city but people living in rural areas are also part of Kaduna state. We don’t discriminate among the residents because the state’s resources belong to all of us. Our government is a mass government, a people’s government,” he added.
The governor highlighted the economic significance of the project, noting that Makarfi is a key agricultural hub producing maize, sugarcane, tomatoes, and soybeans.
“This road from Durum to Kuruntumawa is more than an asphalt; it is a promise fulfilled, a lifeline for farmers, traders, students, and families,” he said.

Since taking office in May 2023, Sani said his administration has initiated 85 road projects covering 785 kilometres across the state, with 44 completed and several others nearing completion.
He also announced the award of 15 additional road projects in the second phase of his infrastructure drive.
The governor called on community leaders and residents to take ownership of the new infrastructure.
“This groundbreaking is more than a ceremony; it is a symbol of progress and of our shared aspiration for a better tomorrow. When communities steward their infrastructure, benefits are long-lasting,” he said.
