Former President Muhammadu Buhari

Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, says former President Muhammadu Buhari, was a patriot whose legacy will continue to inspire generations.

Buhari died on Sunday in London clinic, following a prolonged illness. He was 82.

In a condolence message on Sunday, Sani said Buhari lived a life of service and remained committed to the values of justice and fairness.

“President Muhammadu Buhari, was a towering figure in our national life: he was a soldier, statesman, reformer, and, above all, a beloved leader of the people,” Sani said.

“His courage in confronting corruption and insisting on accountability in public life inspired millions. A man of Spartan simplicity and deep faith, he remained grounded in the values of justice and fairness.”

The governor said the late president’s transition from military rule to democratic leadership reflected his belief in the will of the people.

Sani said Buhari was more than a leader to the people of Kaduna, describing him as a “moral compass and father figure”.

“Though a military General, he chose the difficult path of democratic reinvention. He believed deeply in the rule of law, due process, and the supremacy of the people’s will,” he added.

“To us, he was more than a leader — he was a moral compass, a father figure, and a steady voice in times of uncertainty.”

Sani also condoled with President Bola Tinubu and Buhari’s family over the former president’s passing.
