Kevin de Bruyne scored one and assisted another as Manchester City claimed a routine 3-1 win over FC Copenhagen in the first leg of their round of 16 UEFA champions league (UCL) match at the Park Stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The UCL champions were led by the mercurial midfielder in a match in which three goals were scored in the first half; Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden were the other scorers for City.
De Bruyne fired in a low shot from Foden’s pass to open scoring in the 10th minute while Silva ensured City went into the interval ahead with a simple finish on 41 minutes.
Magnus Mattsson had scored from a long-range effort to briefly tie the encounter.
Foden thereafter added gloss with another expert finish in added time to put Man City in firm control of the tie going into the second leg in a fortnight.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid also win in their first leg encounter, defeating RB Leipzig 1-0 through Brahim Diaz’s wonder goal.
The German Bundesliga side had a plethora of chances to tie the encounter but were denied by a combination of profligacy and excellent goalkeeping.
