Lazio scored a second-half penalty to stun ten-man Bayern Munich 1-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League (UCL) round of 16 encounter in Rome on Wednesday night.

The Italian Serie A side scored an unlikely win, thanks to Ciro Immobile’s spot-kick which was won after a foul by Dayot Upamecano on Gustav Isakson that led to the Frenchman’s dismissal.

The below-par German side who are on a downward spiral in form threatened in the early exchanges. Harry Kane volleyed wide from eight yards out as Bayern failed to threaten the Lazio backline afterward and required a sprawling Manuel Neuer save to stay in the game.

They however fell behind when Upamecano stopped a Lazio counterattack in the box with his studs up in a dangerous tackle, earning him his marching orders.

Immobile dispatched the spot-kick to give Lazio the eventual winner, and a slim one-goal advantage going into the second leg.

In the second game of the night, Paris Saint-Germain scored twice in the second half to defeat Real Sociedad at the Parc des Princes stadium and take control of their round of 16 tie.

Kylian Mbappe marked his return from injury with the opener before Bradley Barcola ended Sociedad’s unbeaten run of seven matches in European games.
