Liverpool needed a second-half goal to overcome Real Madrid 1-0 in their UEFA Champions League (UCL) encounter at Anfield on Tuesday.
Alexis Mac Allister scored the only goal in an entertaining encounter that saw Thibaut Courtois produce magnificent saves to deny Arne Slot’s side a wide margin of victory.
Liverpool looked to take the initiative in the first half, but were thwarted by Courtois, as the Real Madrid goalkeeper made six saves to keep the score goalless at halftime.
However, the 15-time UCL champions could not stop the EPL champions from taking the lead on 61 minutes through Mac Allister, the midfielder powered home a header from Dominik Szoboszlai’s free kick.

The goal, Mac Allister’s first in the UCL since scoring against the same opponent a year ago, proved to be the winning goal despite Real Madrid’s late display.
It is Real Madrid’s first UCL defeat this season, while Liverpool has earned consecutive victories in Europe.
Elsewhere, Arsenal continued their flawless run with a 3-0 win over Slavia Prague to maintain their winning start in Europe, and they are joined by Bayern Munich, who stunned Paris Saint-Germain, UCL winners, 2-1 in Paris despite playing the second half with 10 men.
