UEFA punish Atlético Madrid for fans’ behaviour

European football governing body, UEFA have punished Europa League winners, Atlético Madrid over fans’ unsporting conduct at Lyon’s Olympic stadium during last month’s 3-0 victory over Olympic Marseile in the Europa League final.

Rising at a disciplinary meeting today in Nyon, Switzerland, UEFA the Spanish club’s fans are guilty for displaying political far right banner during the game.

The panel also found the club guilty of “racist behaviour” at the stadium. Therefore, the La Liga runners up must shut off at least 3,000 seats at its first home game in the Champions League next season.

Two goals from Antoine Griezmann and another from captain, Gabi helped Atlético Madrid to a resounding 3-0 win to lift the trophy for a third time since the competition’s inception.
