Barcelona FC have been handed a €500,000 fine by UEFA for breaching financial fair play (FFP) rules.

In a statement on Friday, UEFA said the Spanish team was guilty of “wrongly reporting, in the financial year 2022, profits on disposal of intangible assets (other than player transfers) which are not a relevant income under the regulations”.

Manchester United were also fined €300,000 for a “minor breakeven deficit” following the 2022/23 season.

Konyaspor of Turkey and Cyprus’ APOEL FC got €100,000 fine each for the same offence.

“During the 2022/23 season, the CFCB First Chamber, chaired by Sunil Gulati, concluded the assessment of the breakeven requirement covering the financial years 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022,” the statement reads.

“This is the last time the CFCB assessed the clubs on the basis of the ‘old’ Club Licensing and financial fair play (FFP) regulations, Edition 2018.”

UEFA said AC Milan, Roma, Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain would continue to be monitored as part of their settlement regime. It, however, added that the clubs fulfilled their targets for the financial year 2022.

The FFP rule was implemented by UEFA in the 2011/12 season to ensure European clubs do not spend more than they earned to prevent them from falling into financial problems which may endanger their long-term survival.
