Leading EdTech App, uLesson, was a major part of the three-day cricket camp that held simultaneously at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval, Lagos and the Moshood Abiola ‘Package B’ Cricket Oval, Abuja over the weekend, with the Middlestump, Nigeria’s premium cricket blog, as facilitator.

The camps taught kids the three key skills of batting, bowling, and fielding, in addition to life skills, between August 23 and 25 with support from the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF).

Speaking on the development, Tayo Sowole, the vice-president, distribution and marketing at uLessson, said: “We see strong correlation between physical activity and the mental readiness of kids to learn.

“Investing in sports and education fits perfectly into our purpose while physical well-being is a foundational part of knowledge building,” he added.

“The number of children we had and the excitement shown by the kids at the centers proved that the kids were open to new learning, especially the kids that grow their psychomotor skills. This to us is very crucial hence our resolve to back the initiative.”

Ruth Ayonnaike-Lamina, one of the coaches at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos Center, commended the organisers of the summer cricket camp, saying the programme registered a strong impression on the kids, especially the ones that had contact with the sport for the first time.

“We wish the event could be extended for a longer time. But I still think it is a camp that should be made a yearly event on cricket’s calendar,” Ruth said.

“Apart from all the benefits and life lessons that the kids came off with. It is also a strong campaign for cricket development, given the impression and excitement that the kids had during the exercise.”

Olumide Akintokun, who coordinated the event, said the trajectory of Nigeria cricket in recent years had ensured the bonding of stakeholders with the aim to promote the sport.

Akintokun said: “This summer camp is our expression of support for the gain that cricket had garnered in the last few years. We enjoin more groups to support cricket, especially as it has the capacity to influence kids in these challenging times.”
