David Umahi, the minister of works
David Umahi, minister of works, says the rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway is set to be completed in “record time”.
Speaking on Friday while receiving Uba Sani, governor of Kaduna, in Abuja, the minister added that the contractors handling the project have been directed to adopt double shifts to fast-track the project.
Umahi said durable concrete pavement technology would be used on the over 700-kilometre-long road to ensure sustainability and reduced maintenance costs.
On his part, Sani described the road as “a national artery” central to the socio-economic integration of the entire northern region.

“This expressway is not just a road — it is an economic corridor that connects people, markets, and opportunities across northern Nigeria and beyond,” the governor said.
The federal government has earmarked N740 billion for the rehabilitation of the reconstruction of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway which began in April.
The project is expected to be completed by June 2026.
