Umo Eno, governor of Akwa Ibom, has dissolved all statutory and non-statutory boards and commissions in the state.

The dissolution was announced on Thursday in Uyo by Enobong Uwah, secretary to the state government (SSG).

Uwah said the governor acted under the powers granted to him by section 6 of the Statutory Boards (Special Provisions) Law, 2023. He said the decision takes immediate effect.

“The governor wishes members of the dissolved boards and commissions well in their future endeavours,” Uwah said.

“The governor commends them for the roles they have played towards achieving the promises contained in the ARISE agenda.”

The SSG also asked the chairpersons of the defunct agencies to hand over government property in their custody to the most senior officer in their establishments.

During a media briefing to mark the 37th anniversary of the state’s creation in 2024, Eno hinted at the imminent dissolution of the state executive council, including statutory and non-statutory boards.

The governor said the dissolution would not come as a surprise to the commissioners who had dedicated their time and energy to the state’s development.

He added that he was “waiting for the right time” to hold a valedictory session to appreciate the commissioners and board members for their contributions to the growth of the state.
