Clement Jimbo
Clement Jimbo, a member of the house of representatives, says the defection of Umo Eno, governor of Akwa Ibom state, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) is “God’s will”.
Eno formally announced his defection to the APC on Friday, saying his decision followed three months of consultation with critical stakeholders across the state.
In April, Eno attributed his planned decamping to the APC to the alleged persistent internal conflicts within the PDP which, he said, created uncertainty around his political future.
Eno noted that the party lacked a clear roadmap to guarantee his re-election, suggesting that the instability made it difficult for him to continue under the PDP platform.

He said the move would enable Akwa Ibom to benefit more from national development programmes and strengthen the state’s access to federal resources.
‘IT’S GOD’S WILL’
Reacting to Eno’s defection, Jimbo, who represents Abak/Etim Ekpo/Ika federal constituency in Akwa Ibom, said the governor understands the “times and seasons”.

“I am indeed excited that what is happening today in Akwa Ibom state is in line with the will of God for Akwa Ibom state,” he said.
“I am happy that our governor has understood the times and seasons and has aligned Akwa Ibom state in that direction. So, I am very happy.”
Jimbo also dismissed rumours that he would be ineligible to contest the 2027 election due to a zoning arrangement in his constituency.
He said zoning is unconstitutional and not recognised by the national assembly.

Jimbo added that his tenure marks the “first time” the people in the constituency are “benefiting the dividends of democracy”.
