The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has appointed Oladele Oladejo, head of strategic projects development at the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRC), to its advisory committee of the African regional partnership on sustainability and SDG reporting.

The committee is under the UNCTAD intergovernmental working group of experts on international standards of accounting and reporting (ISAR).

In a statement on Tuesday, FRC said the appointment represents a significant recognition of Nigeria’s growing leadership and influence in global regulatory reforms and sustainable development initiatives.

The primary role of the advisory committee is to act as a bridge between African countries and international institutions in the field of sustainability reporting, ensuring a unified African voice in the development of global standards.

According to the agency, the appointment also highlights Oladejo’s professional excellence and the strategic value of Nigeria’s contributions to advancing governance, accountability, and corporate transparency across Africa.

In his remarks, Oladejo said the achievement is a testament to the exemplary, visionary, and inclusive leadership of Rabiu Olowo, the executive secretary of the council.

“He emphasized that under Olowo’s guidance as Chair of the 41st Session of ISAR and Immediate Past Chair of ISAR, the Council has attained unprecedented global visibility and credibility,” the statement said.

“He further noted that Nigeria has now been positioned as a pacesetter in corporate and financial reporting reforms across Africa and globally, with its regulatory leadership and innovative initiatives serving as a model for other nations.”

Oladejo said the appointment was inspired by the remarkable success achieved through the collaboration between the FRC and UNCTAD, particularly the successful completion of the accounting development tool (ADT) national assessment in Nigeria.

The appointee added that ADT has evolved into a regional reference model and has significantly influenced Africa’s approach to sustainability and financial reporting reforms.
