Bello Tijani, minister of communication, innovation and digital economy, has announced a partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to offer paid internships to Nigerians participating in the government’s technology programme.

Tijani, in a social media post on Tuesday, said the partnership is to offer 3000 paid internships.

The minister said the paid internship is part of the federal government’s three million technical talents (3MTT) initiative.

“We are pleased to announce a partnership with UNDP Nigeria to offer 3,000 paid internships to our 3MTT fellows,” Tijani posted.

“These 12-month internships will help fulfil our objective to ensure that participants in the 3MTT programme get placed in roles that will allow them to apply the skills they learn in the programme.”

According to the federal government, the 3MTT programme would create a pipeline of technical talent across Nigeria to help the ministry achieve its aim of making the country a net exporter of talent.

The government also said the initiative would contribute to the growth of the digital economy, and create employment for trainers.

On October 23, the federal government announced a three-year partnership with IHS Nigeria to establish a learning community for its 3MTT initiative.

The partnership would facilitate the setting up of learning communities in the 36 states and the FCT.
