The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has pledged to support Nigeria’s environment roadmap.

Elsie Attafuah, UNDP’s new resident representative, made this known on Wednesday, during a courtesy visit to Balarabe Lawal, the minister of environment, in Abuja.

Attafuah said Nigeria and many other African countries are not doing enough on energy, climate change, innovations, plastic pollution, and biodiversity.

The organisation also pledged to support President Bola Tinubu on his 18 priority deliverables in the Renewed Hope Agenda.

On his part, Lawal congratulated the new UNDP country representative on her posting to Nigeria, and solicited UNDP’s support in tackling climate change challenges and environmental sustainability.

He noted that Nigeria needs UNDP’s technical assistance to curb insecurity and banditry in the forests.

“Other areas of collaboration and partnership between the ministry and UNDP include pollution control, biodiversity, erosion and flood control, desert encroachment, among others,” Lawal said.
