The governing council of the University of Abuja has approved the promotion of 104 academic staff members to professorial ranks, the highest number in the institution’s history.
The decision was made during the 78th extraordinary meeting of the council, which concluded on Wednesday.
A total of 58 staff were elevated to the rank of professor, while 46 others were promoted to associate professor.
The newly promoted academics are from diverse fields, including animal science, engineering, clinical sciences, theatre arts, and Islamic studies.

Mathew Adamu, acting vice-chancellor, congratulated the staff, describing the promotions as a recognition of their “hard work, academic excellence, and commitment to the values and growth of the university.”
The professor stated that the promotions were a “great achievement” and a testament to the institution’s commitment to “reward excellence and strengthen our human resource capacity.”
He added that the university is committed to improving its reward system to “strengthen our journey towards attaining the heights of world-class institutions.”
