UNIJOS ASUU declares strike over unpaid June salaries

Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the University of Jos (UNIJOS) have embarked on indefinite strike.

In a statement, Jurbe Molwus, the chairperson of the ASUU branch, urged staff members to withdraw their services if their June salary was not paid by 11:59 p.m. on a specified date.

Molwus said the withdrawal would hold until the salary is paid.

Earlier, the national executive council of ASUU had directed all its branches to take action when salaries are not paid by the third day of a new month.

The union said its members have refrained from attending lectures and statutory meetings.

He also stated that the branch’s strike monitoring team had been assigned to regulate the situation.

“Dear comrades, this is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for the month of June 2025 is not paid by 11:59 pm today, July 3, 2025,” the statement reads.

“This is in line with the extant NEC resolution that ‘branches should take action when salary is not paid by the third day of a new month’ and our congress resolution of June 4, 2025, affirming this position.

“The action takes effect from 12:01 am on Friday, July 4, 2025.

“Please ensure full compliance until you are communicated to resume work. The strike monitoring team of the branch will be activated to monitor compliance.”
