Ugochukwu Anyaehie
The governing council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra state, has appointed Ugochukwu Anyaehie as its vice-chancellor (VC).
Anyaehie, a professor of physiology and clinical measurements, is set to assume office on November 19 for a single, five-year tenure.
Olugbenga Kukoyi, pro-chancellor and chairman of the university’s governing council, confirmed his appointment in Abuja on Sunday.
Kukoyi stated that the selection followed a “thorough and transparent process.”

“I am pleased to announce Professor Ugochukwu Anyaehie as the substantive Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikwe University, after a thorough and transparent process,” he said.
Anyaehie brings almost two decades of teaching experience from the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Enugu campus.
He previously served as deputy provost, College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, between 2018 and 2022.

He served as acting provost, College of Medicine, Imo State University, as well as a visiting professor from 2020 to 2022.
Anyaehie obtained his first degree in medicine and surgery from Abia State University, Uturu, in 1998, followed by a Masters’ degree in 2004, a Ph.D. in 2009, and an MPH in 2011.
Anyaehie takes over from Carol Arinze-Umobi, who has been acting VC following the reversal of the appointment of former VC, Bernard Odoh.
The incoming VC has pledged to transform UNIZIK and elevate its global standing.

“Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport is one of the best in Nigeria, so UNIZIK should also be the best university in Nigeria,” Anyaehie said.
“I guarantee you that in the next six months, UNIZIK will be well placed, its ranking will go to one of the best in Nigeria.”
