US President Donald Trump says his administration is partnering with private sector to boost the country’s capacity to conduct coronavirus tests.
The president announced this at a press conference at the White House. He said his administration has brought together chief executive officers of commercial laboratories in getting faster ways of conducting tests.
Trump commended Roches Diagnostics for developing an application to boost the conduct of coronavirus tests.
“Ten days ago, I brought CEOs of commercial laboratories to the white house. I directed them to immediately begin working on solution to dramatically increase the availability of tests,” he said.
“We are announcing a new partnership with the private sector to increase our capacity to test for the coronavirus. We want to ensure that those who need of a test can get a test safely, quickly and very conveniently.
“Using federal emergency authorities, the FDA approved a new test for the virus. We did this within hours after receiving the application from Roches.
“A process that normally take weeks we therefore expect half a million tests will be available early next week. I want to thank Roches, great company for their incredible work.”
In his remark, Matt Sause, president of North America Roche Diagnostics, acknowledged the assistance his organisation has enjoyed from the government in developing and promoting the test application.
“From Roche we want to thank the FTA for the rapid approval of our coronavirus test, we really appreciate the partnership with the CDC and FTA to get that to market as fast as possible, because it is critical for us to make that available to help patients in need and working with laboratories to get it up and going in the nearest future which will bring hundreds of thousands of test available to patients in need in the United State.” he said.
