Kim Jong Un, North Korean leader, says the United States is his country’s biggest enemy.

Speaking for nine hours at the congress of the ruling Workers’ Party of Korea, Jong Un said his country’s political activities should be focused on subduing the US.

His comments comes a few days to the inauguration of the Joe Biden administration scheduled for January 20, 2021.

Jong Un named multi-warhead missiles and spy satellites as some of the weapons systems already under development in North Korea.

“Our foreign political activities should be focused and redirected on subduing the US, our biggest enemy and main obstacle to our innovated development,” he was quoted by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) to have said.

“No matter who is in power in the US, the true nature of the US and its fundamental policies towards North Korea never change. The reality shows that we need to strengthen the national defence capabilities without a moment of hesitation to deter the United States’ nuclear threats and to bring peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.

“The geopolitical features of our state called for pushing ahead with the already-started building of the nuclear force without interruption, for the welfare of the people, destiny of the revolution, existence and independent development of the state.”

He, however, said his country would not use its nuclear arsenal unless “hostile forces” attempt to attack with similar weapons.

Jong Un added that the key to establishing new relations between both countries is for the US to withdraw its “hostile” policy, and promote “the establishment of new North Korea-US relations”.

Speaking on the country’s relationship with South Korea, Kim said things could return to how it was three years ago when a peace mood was created, adding that it all depends on South Korea’s attitude.

Since taking over power in 2011, the North Korean leader has enacted policies seeking economic growth and expansion of nuclear weapons, a move that has met stiff resistance from the US.

Trump and Jong Un met in Singapore in 2018 for a highly anticipated summit — the first of its kind between a US president and a leader of North Korea — but the discussions later fell apart.
