US says agricultural trade with Nigeria expected to exceed $700m in 2025

The United States mission Nigeria says agricultural trade with Nigeria is projected to hit over $700 million in 2025.

According to a post on X on Tuesday, the projection was disclosed during a visit to the Apapa Port in Lagos by Rick Swart, US consul general, and Chris Bielecki, US agricultural counsellor, to observe the uploading of 50,000 metric tonnes of the US grown wheat valued at $15 million.

“Nigeria is the third largest export market for U.S. wheat,” the post reads.

“The wheat was purchased by Flour Mills of Nigeria, one of the largest importers of U.S. wheat in Nigeria.

“In 2025, U.S.-Nigeria agricultural trade is on track to more than double to over $700 million, benefiting farmers, businesses, and consumers on both sides of the Atlantic.”

The US mission said agricultural trade between both countries supports American farmers while helping Nigerian businesses create jobs through value-added processing.

The post added that agricultural trade also provides Nigerian consumers with access to high-quality food ingredients.
