It wasn’t a stroll in the park for three-time champions USA after battling to a 2-0 win over Colombia in their round-of-16 FIFA Women’s World Cup clash in Edmonton.
The South Americans attacked their more illustrious opponents and only fell behind following the dismissal of goalkeeper Catalina Perez early in the second half.
Abby Wambach missed the ensuing penalty before second-half strikes from Alex Morgan and Carli Lloyd, from the penalty spot, put the Americans in control.
The win wasn’t with a cost with key players Megan Rapinoe and Lauren Holiday set to miss the quarter-final match with China PR after collecting yellow cards.

Substitutes Jill Scott and Jodie Taylor gave England extra energy in attack and the pair swapped passes before setting up Lucy Bronze who’s shot from 25 metres beat keeper Ingrid Hjelmseth for a worthy winner 14 minutes to the end of the match.
The Three Lionesses will face hosts Canada in the last-eight in Vancouver.
