Imo senator resigns as APC convention secretary — to calm ‘fraying nerves’

Benjamin Uwajumogu, secretary of All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention committee, has resigned.

Godson Amadikwa, an aide to Uwajumogu, disclosed in a statement on Saturday.

The senator representing Imo north said his decision to resign from the committee is based on “personal reasons”.

“The distinguished senator Benjamin Uwajumogu has resigned his appointment as the secretary, 2018 APC national convention committee. The decision of his resignation was duly taken for personal reasons, tailored towards blighting fraying nerves and to advance the progress of APC in Imo state,” the statement read.

“The distinguished senator thanked the national chairman of APC and the NWC for the uncommon privilege given to him to serve within this period; as well as thank all who stood by him in this test of leadership.

“The senator however, wishes the national convention committee and the entire party successful conclusion of the national convention. The national chairman of APC, chief John Oyegun, has accepted his resignation this evening and wished him well in his legislative duties.”

The development comes few hours after Oyegun announced that he would not run for the office of the APC national chairman.
