Vanguard Newspaper has postponed its economic discourse and personality of the year awards over coronavirus fears.

The event was initially scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

Gbenga Adefaye (pictured), editor-in-chief of the newspaper, who announced the postponement in a statement, said new dates would be announced later.

“The Management of Vanguard Newspapers regrets to announce the postponement of the Economic Discourse earner scheduled to hold today and Personality of the Year Awards ceremony slated for tomorrow,” the statement read.

“We were constrained to postpone both events In observance of global health concern over the rampaging corona virus pandemic Covid-19 which is spreading to every part of the world including our country In observance of both Federal and state instructions on how to curtail the virus and stop community infections, we had to postpone both events.

“New dates will be announced later.”

Nigeria currently has five cases of coronavirus.

The federal government had restricted flights from 13 countries, including US and UK to check the spread of the disease.

The Lagos state government also banned religious gathering of over 50 worshippers as a measure of controlling the spread.
