Jamie Vardy has beaten Odion Ighalo to the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month for October.

The Leicester City forward received the award for scoring five league goals in four games in October.

The striker emerged ahead of a six-man shortlist of Watford’s Odion Ighalo (three goals, two assists), Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil (one goal, six assists), Oliver Giroud (three goals), Stoke City’s Jack Butland (three clean sheets) and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne (one goal, five assists).

Vardy is the third Leicester player to win the award after Muzzy Izzet in September 1999 and Tim Flowers 12 months later. He was also nominated for the prize last month.
