Victor Boniface wins second straight Bundesliga rookie of the month

Victor Boniface, Super Eagles striker, has been named the best rookie in Germany’s Bundesliga for the month of September.

The winner of the prestigious monthly award was announced by the league on Friday.

The 22-year-old had also won the award, which recognises the best-performing young talent in the league, for the month of August.

Boniface defeated Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig and TSG Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Beier to claim the September honour.

He was adjudged the winner by 40 percent of the vote from fans and 30 percent each from the 18 Bundesliga team captains and a panel of pundits.

Boniface, who joined Bayer Leverkusen last July, netted two goals and provided three assists in just four appearances for the club in the league throughout September.

In August, He defeated Harry Kane, Alphonso Davies and Kevin Behrens to win the Bundesliga player of the month.

The achievement made him the second player since Erling Haaland in 2020 to be named the league’s best player and best rookie in the same month.

Boniface made his debut for the Super Eagles in September.

He scored his first start for Nigeria in a 2-2 draw against Saudi Arabia in an international friendly on Friday.
