Sunday Dare, minister of youth and sports development, has urged the Golden Eaglets to go for record sixth FIFA U17 World Cup title in Brazil.

The minister spoke on Saturday after paying a visit to the team during their training session at the goal project, package B of the national stadium.

Dare said the only option for the Manu Garba tutored side during the tournament is victory.

He also encouraged the players to remain focused and disciplined on the task ahead in Brazil, adding that the Golden Eaglets had brought good news to Nigerians in the past, having won the trophy five times.

The Golden Eaglets had triumphed at the 1985, 1993, 2007, 2013 and 2015 championships in China, Japan, Korea Republic, United Arab Emirates and Chile respectively.

“The target in Brazil is to win the World Cup for a record sixth time,” Dare said.

“Winning the competition will set them apart. The only option is victory. There is no other option.”

He praised the coaching crew for the success the team had achieved in the past and also informed them that he expects more from them in Brazil.

“We have one of the best coaches at this age grade in the world,” he said.

He assured the Eaglets that the ministry will work with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure that their needs are met to ensure victory at the cadet tournament.

“I am here to listen to their requests and the kind of intervention they need. It’s better to hear from them directly,” Dare said.
