The 2016 Free Press Awards held on November 2 — the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists — at De Nieuwe Regentes in The Hague, Netherlands.
This video excerpt of the ceremony features public presentation of prizes to three journalists, one of whom is ‘Fisayo Soyombo, editor of TheCable, who won the Newcomer of the Year —Hans Verploeg Award.
It also includes comments from select journalists — including Javier Espinoza, who was once abducted by ISIS — in high-risk countries on the importance of advocating freedom for the press.
