VIDEO: Residents scamper for safety as oil pipeline explodes in Lagos
An oil pipeline running through Glory Land estate around Isheri Olofin, Egbe-Idimu local council development area of Lagos state, has exploded.
The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, leaving residents scampering for safety.
Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, director-general, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident, saying emergency responders have been deployed in the scene.
“There is an outbreak of fire at the back of Diamond Estate along Isheri/Lasu -Igando Road. I suspect that the fire must have been caused by pipeline vandalism. I have activated Lagos State Response Plan. All key stakeholders have moved to the scene,” he said.
Nosa Okunbor, spokesman of LASEMA, said two persons were killed in the inferno.
The cause of the explosion is not yet clear, but some residents say it is as a result of the activities of vandals.
The explosion comes a day after many cars were damaged following a gas cylinder explosion at Four Points by Sheraton Hotels, Oniru, Lagos state.
