Sporadic shootings were also reported in other parts of the state.

The violence was said to have erupted owing to varying opinions on the mode of picking party officials. While one group loyal to Kayode Fayemi, governor of the state, called for a consensus, the SWAGA group called for direct election.

Tony Adeniyi, the state SWAGA chairman, said widespread violence marred the process, adding that there was no congress in the state.
