Aliyu Wamakko, former governor of Sokoto, has been announced as the winner of the senatorial seat in the northern district of the state.

The election into the national assembly which was first held on March 18 did not produce a winner, due to the fact that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the entire election inconclusive.

Usman Magawata, the returning officer for the Sokoto north senatorial supplementàry polls, said Wamakko polled 141,468 votes to defeat Mannir Daniya, his close rival and deputy governor of the state, who had 118,445 votes.

Abubakar Mode of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 561 votes to come third in the election.

This will make it his third term in the red chamber since he was elected into office in 2015.

Wamakko was also the deputy governor to Attahiru Bafarawa for over seven years between 1999 and 2006 before he resigned to contest for the governorship of the state, following their political differences.
