Wande Coal, a former Mo’Hits vocalist, recently unveiled his sophomore album and there is a sense of melancholy about him when he discusses the absence of his former boss, Don Jazzy, in the album.
“What people don’t know is that after Mo’Hits dissolved in 2011, I was left alone to choose who to pitch my tent with and I went with Don Jazzy (Mavin Record) without no contract because of the love I have for him,” he told TheCable when reflecting on his album launch.
“We started working on my sophomore album but we didn’t agree on any contract terms. So when people ask me why iit took me five years to release my sophomore album, that is the reason.
“By the time I decided to move on, I decided it was time to have my personal growth; I had to start all over again. I had to write new songs and get new producers because we didn’t agree on a contract.”
Titled ‘Wanted’, the album features eight different producers, without any input from Don Jazzy. Reacting to this, he said: “I miss Don Jazzy. Whenever, we are in the studio we have fun. There’s no beef, no stew. I don’t know why people think there is.
Expectedly, he didn’t rule out the possibility of working with his former boss, saying: “Mavin is family. Why not? I will work with Don Jazzy.
“In the future I’m hoping we can do something. But I needed to give other producers a chance, like the one I made with R2Bees.
“That wasn’t Don Jazzy and it was a hit. MTV took me to Ghana. It was inevitable. I met this guy I haven’t met before and I just did it and everybody loved it. People must grow. To God be the glory. He has been the one who has brought me this far.”
