I want to be world champion, says CG gold medallist Adekuoroye

After winning her second consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal, Odunayo Adekuoroye says her dream is to be crowned world champion.

Adekuoroye, 24, won the wrestling gold medal for Nigeria five days ago.

Upon arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International, Abuja, on Wednesday, she told TheCable that her ambition is to emerge the best in the world.

“What I look forward to in my career is to be the world champion,” Adekuoroye said.

“I am so glad, I am so happy to have won the Commonwealth gold back to back.

“Myself and my coach we had done so many things on the mat and before I left Nigeria, I believed everything will be okay.

“And I am so happy to have claimed the gold again.

“I had the confidence that I will win. I am the defending champion in my category, I expected myself to win nothing less than the gold medal. And I did indeed, win it again.”

She won a bronze medal at the 2015 World Wrestling Championships and silver two years later at the women’s freestyle 55 kilograms.
