Nizamiye Hospital, a privately run health facility in Abuja, says it does not carry out test or any other analysis for the COVID-19 disease.

Mohammed Abubakar, the hospital’s spokesperson, said in a statement, on Sunday, that the hospital has put in place measures to ensure that all perceived cases of COVID-19 are directed to the designated government-approved treatment and isolation centres in the federal capital city (FCT).

“The Nizamiye Hospital does not conduct the test for COVID-19, and the hospital is not a designated isolation center. This much we have disseminated through various media platforms for the benefit of the general public,” the statement read.

“At the moment, we are concentrated on ensuring that our patients get the best medical care as we have instituted measures to ensure that our patients and staffers are well protected in the discharge of their duties.

“We do not test for COVID-19, and we as well do not offer treatments for COVID-19. We advise that all suspected cases and inquiries should be directed to the Federal Ministry of Health and the National Centre for Disease Control.

“We are cognisant of the fact that managing COVID-19 cases requires specialised training, and the Nizamiye hospital does not have such expertise in this instance. We are in solidarity with the Nigerian health authorities in this challenging period. As a law-abiding organisation, we have strived to adhere to the extant laws concerning managing the COVID-19 pandemic.”

He said that managing COVID-19 requires specialised skills and training that requires an extreme level of care, adding that the hospital does not have trained medical personnel to handle COVID-19 patients.
