The Delta government says the Anambra woman who was allegedly begging for alms in Asaba, the state capital, was not deported.

The woman, identified as Ogochukwu Nwabude, was said to have been seen with a baby at Inter Bau Roundabout in the state.

Nwabude was said to have roamed the Delta state capital for about two weeks.

In a statement on Monday, the Delta government said the woman was not deported but handed over to the ministry of women affairs and social development in Anambra for intervention.

“Reports claiming that a woman from Anambra state was deported by the Delta state government for begging and causing a nuisance in Asaba have been refuted,” the statement reads.

“According to a statement released by Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, the chief press decretary to the governor, 32-year-old Ogochukwu Nwabude, who was accompanied by a baby, had been begging for alms at Inter Bau Roundabout in the capital city for about two weeks.

“Officials from the ministry of women affairs and social development observed her for a period and conducted a check which revealed that she was stable and of sound mind but required financial assistance.
