Victor Osimhen, Super Eagles forward, says the team wants to kick off the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign against Liberia with a win.

Osimhen, in a chat with TheCable, said it is highly important for the three-time African champions to begin their campaign to Qatar with a victory against Liberia.

The Gernot Rohr boys will take on Liberia in the matchday one of the qualification series at the Teslim Balogun Stadium on Friday.

Although the 22-year-old Napoli player admitted that it won’t be an easy ride for the Eagles against the Lone Stars, Osimhen said the team is fully prepared to take all the three points at stake.

“And of course, we will want to kick off the World Cup qualifying campaign with a win,” he told TheCable.

“So, I think it is really important to us to get the win on Friday and which is not going to be easy. Because we have seen how this team can really upset the big nations. I think for us we will be very ready.

“Yes, the team is very very prepared. And we trained today and it was with a very high intensity. The whole squad is ready and we have been preparing for this for a very long time.

“So, for me, I feel the team is ready and we have a very good coach and technical staff that can help us to get the job done.”

In 12 appearances for the Super Eagles, Osimhen has netted six times.
