The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned drivers of the e-hailing taxi scheme — ‘LagosRide’ — against disobeying traffic laws.

Bolaji Oreagba, general manager of LASTMA, said this over the weekend when the management of Ibile Holdings Limited, owners of LagosRide, paid him a courtesy visit in Oshodi, Lagos.

Abiodun Amokomowo, the company’s chief executive officer (CEO) led the management team.

Speaking during the visit, Oreagba said the agency would no longer condone the “impunity” of the drivers of LagosRide on bus rapid transit (BRT) vehicle lanes or other roads, stressing that it is becoming alarming.

The general manager said the warning is necessary to checkmate the excesses of drivers of LagosRide who do not consider the safety of other road users.

“Let me state here clearly that the impunity of drivers of these ‘LagosRide’ taxis driving on BRT corridors/obstructions on major roads is becoming alarming,” the general manager was quoted in a statement by Adebayo Taofiq, the agency’s spokesperson.

“As a responsible and responsive agency of government, we would no longer condone their recklessness as we shall continue to apply the full weight of the Law on motorists found contravening any sections of the traffic laws.”

On his part, Amokomowo said the management had installed a 360 dashboard camera in each LagosRide taxi to give 24-hours auto-visual feeds to the control centre to ensure the safety of riders and passengers.
