Aviation union workers, on Tuesday, ended their two-day warning strike which commenced on Monday, in protest of poor working conditions.

In a video seen by TheCable on Tuesday, Francis Akinjole, general secretary of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), apologised to the public for the inconveniences experienced.

Speaking on behalf of the unions, Akinjole said after this warning strike, the unions would restrategise if the federal government does not come up with a considerable solution.

“A meeting was slated today with the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission and board members of various agencies. We are expecting the outcome but we can never be disappointed because we know what it is going to be,” he said.

“We pray that whatever report is brought will be favourable so that this whole problem would be permanently resolved.

“We are satisfied with the two-day warning which is just a sensitisation exercise to inform Nigerians.

“If we do not get a good response, we would go back to our drawing board and determine the next line of action.”

Kicking off the strike action yesterday, TheCable reported that the angry workers blocked access roads to the airports in Lagos, making entry into the international and domestic airports cumbersome.

The unions had warned the federal government that if their conditions were not met after the warning strike, they would withdraw their services indefinitely.

Meanwhile, the federal government had appealed to aviation workers to cancel the ongoing strike action, promising that their demands will be met soon.
